If after you have read everything we have shared and you would like to work for the DOJ - your first port of call should be to speak to a member of the Judiciary - we can usually be found either at City Hall or via reaching out on Birdy. Our Roster can be found HERE. We invite people to come and have an open discussion with us on what the work entails, the number of hours you need to dedicate and where the challenges may be. Should you wish to proceed here is what to do next:
Complete the Application Form in Discord HERE
Take the Bar Exam (Its open book, take your time, we are looking for how you answer the questions in your own words)
Your DOJ application may get accepted even if you do not pass your Bar Exam. You will be allowed to retake the bar exam three (3) times. You may not practice law without a state issued Bar License. If failure occurs 3 times, your pending employment will be terminated. You will need to reapply after 30 days if you wish to pursue a Law career.
If you are successful, you will be invited to an interview to discuss what may be the most appropriate next step. Please be patient as it may take some time to review your application, bar exam, and set up an interview.
We are looking for how peoples behaviors will fit with the department, Law knowledge and ways of working can be learnt. We can teach law, but not decorum.
Being dismissed from the DOJ is not a decision that we make lightly, there are usually three reasons why people are removed:
Being Inactive - there is always a demand for lawyers, it is important that we are aware of who is and who isnt available - if you are away for a significant period (Months) then you will have your bar card revoked
Breaking the Law - very simple, you are to uphold the law.. you break it.. you are not fit for duty
Behaviors not in alignment with the culture in the DOJ - whilst things can get heated in the Court room, it is imperative they do not elsewhere..
If you have had your bar license removed you can appeal to have it returned to you - you will be asked to explain the circumstances around it and may asked to attend an in person interview before a member of the Judiciary will make a ruling. The ability to have it returned will vary on a case by case basis - typically you may be placed on a probationary period before having full re-reinstatement -Apply for reinstatement HERE
